HUAWEI “HONGMENG” OS TRADEMARKED IN MANY COUNTRIES

It is no longer news that Chinese manufacturing giant, Huawei, is developing its own system which will reportedly be called “HongMeng” OS in China and “Ark” or “Oak” OS in other parts of the world. We already know that the company has submitted an application for a trademark for this system to the intellectual property organization in China. As early as August last year, Huawei had registered the HongMeng trademark in the Trademark Office of the State Intellectual Property Office of China. The trademark was approved on May 14, 2019.

In addition, there are also reports that Huawei has submitted the “HongMeng” trademark application in the intellectual property organizations in many countries around the world. Some listed countries include Canada, Mexico, Spain, South Korea, Australia, New Zealand, Peru, Turkey, The Philippines, and some other European countries. The trademarks of Huawei’s related names submitted in the above countries and regions have been classified into a series of sub-categories, including the “operating system”, similar to the trademark applications filed in China.

In addition, the registration information shows that the “operating system” supports a variety of platforms, including laptops, smartphones, tablets, smartwatches, wearables, and IoT. It is worth noting that Google has adviced the US government against excluding Huawei from using the Android System.
